Michael Fauerbach Bio
Michael Fauerbach (1941–2011) was a painter, sculptor, and printmaker whose work was deeply rooted in the environments he lived in and observed. Born and raised in the Bronx, he graduated from the School of Visual Arts in 1963, where he initially studied illustration out of a love for the figure. As the field shifted with the rise of photography, Michael turned fully to painting—an art form he continued to explore throughout his life.
After serving in the U.S. Army in Germany from 1964 to 1966, he returned to New York, co-founding the Rhino Horn Group in the early 1970s—a collective of humanist painters committed to socially conscious figurative work. Over the decades, his art was exhibited in New York City, the Catskills, New Orleans, Jersey City, and Medellín, Colombia.
In 2003, Michael retired to Denver, NY, where he continued to paint and work in sculpture and etching. He drew ongoing inspiration from the landscapes, people, and rhythms of rural life.
